17th Annual Golf Classic - May 2019

The 17th annual Bearden Foundation Golf Classic, held in May at Willow Creek Golf Club, raised more than $35,000 for the school.

 

This year’s sponsors of the four-person scramble event included University Eye Specialists, Cherokee Distributing, Margaret Heins, Bertelkamp Automation, Hilliard Lyons, Chick-fil-A, Threds, and Brown Bag Catering while Bert Bertelkamp served as tournament host. We welcomed a tournament-record 26 teams and the winning foursome was led by

former Bearden golf coach Tyler Lane along

with Mark Morrell and former Bearden golfers

Allie Knight and Kelli Pemberton.

16th Annual Golf Classic - May 2018

The 16th annual Bearden Foundation Golf Classic, held in May at Willow Creek Golf Club, raised more than $25,000 for the school. University Eye Specialists and Cherokee Distributing sponsored the four-person scramble event while Bert Bertelkamp and Dawson Halliday served as hosts.

At the tournament, it was announced that

Margaret Heins-Laning, first president of the

Foundation when it began in 1997, had made

a substantial contribution for the

construction of a new on-campus indoor

practice facility for the Bearden golf program.

15th Annual Golf Classic - May 5, 2017

The 15th annual Bearden High School Foundation Golf Classic, held May 5 at Willow Creek Golf Club, raised more than $40,000 for the school.

Bearden High School alumni Bert Bertelkamp and Rocky Goode served as hosts while the presenting sponsor for the four- person scramble event was McCamy Development with University Eye Specialists and Cherokee Distributing as co-sponsors. Players and guests enjoyed a lunch buffet prior to teeing off courtesy of Brown Bag Café.

Bearden alumni Phil and Neal Guthe of Guthe Insurance sponsored a $10,000 Hole-in-One Challenge and special guest UT assistant golf coach Sean Pacetti took on all comers with a “Beat the Pro” challenge at the 11th hole. Tom Dickenson of the law firm Hodges, Doughty and Carson sponsored this year’s Awards Reception. The winning team was comprised of Michael Adams, Jake Graves, Luke Chill and Mark Benko.

The next Foundation Golf Classic is scheduled for Friday, May 4, 2018 at Willow Creek.

Bearden High School alumni, All American and University of Tennessee Basketball players, Bert Bertelkamp and Holly Warlick, once again served as hosts of the 14th Annual Bearden High School Foundation Golf Classic. This year’s lead sponsor was McCamy Development with Cherokee Distributing Company and University Eye Surgeons as co-sponsors. The tournament was held at Willow Creek Golf Club on Friday, May 6th raising over $36,000 for the students and staff of Bearden High School.

The BHSF Golf Classic event began at 1:00 p.m. with an amazing lunch buffet sponsored by The Brown Bag Café served prior to tee-off. Bearden’s choral ensemble sang our National Anthem. Honorary host and 1972 Bearden All American Football player, UT football player and former official SEC referee, Rocky Goode, greeted players, along with Bert, under the meet and greet tent. Rocky also sponsored the player’s snack filled “Goode Bags”.

Yearbook photographers captured the day’s action and BHS Business students provided each player with a team photo. Contest opportunities included a $15,000 Hole-in-One Challenge sponsored by Phil Guthe Insurance. Special guest and University of Tennessee Assistant Golf Coach, Sean Pacetti, challenged players with “Beat the Pro”. Tom Dickenson of Hodges, Doughty and Carson sponsored this year’s Awards Reception where door prizes were awarded.

This year’s 2016 Bearden High School Foundation Golf Classic winners were Darren Welch, Jeff Golliher, Steve Golliher and Brian Donaldson of Hilliard Lyons Investment Group.

14th Annual Golf Classic - May 6, 2016

13th Annual Golf Classic

This year’s 2015 Bearden High School Foundation Golf Classic winners were the Brown Bag with Matt Mincer, Paul Dickenson, Peter Brown, and Daniel Benner.

Bearden High School alumni, All American and University of Tennessee Basketball players, Bert Bertelkamp and Holly Warlick, once again served as hosts of the 13th Annual Bearden High School Foundation Golf Classic. Event sponsors were Cherokee Distributing Company and University Eye Surgeons. The tournament was held at Willow Creek Golf Club on Friday, April 24, 2014, raising $30,000 for the students and staff of Bearden High School.

 

The Golf Classic event began at noon with an amazing lunch buffet sponsored by The Brown Bag Cafe. Bearden’s Brass Quintet, under the leadership of Megan Christian, entertained players as they were preparing carts, playing our National Anthem along with a series of encouraging bugle “revelries” as players headed out to the greens. Wayne Tipton and Rocky Goode, along with Bert greeted players. Wayne is a class of 1963 All-State basketball player. Rocky is a class of 1972 football High School All American and UT football player. He is presently an SEC referee, recently leaving the field for the booth as the Instant Replay official.

 

Photography and Web Design students captured the day’s action and provided each player with a team photo. The Bearden High School Foundation’s mission is to help provide the best academic education and experience it can for students, teachers and staff, by supporting them with additional educational material and/or tools they need to create an exciting and thriving learning environment. The foundation was established in 1998 raising over $750,000 to date, which has been invested in both the physical and educational needs of the school. A list of all the ways BHSF has helped Bearden High is listed in this issue of the Foundation FOCUS.

12th Annual Golf Classic

Bearden alumni, Bert Bertelkamp of Bertelkamp Automation and Holly Warlick, UT Lady Vols Coach, served once again as hosts of the 13th Annual Bearden High School Foundation Golf Classic. Event sponsors were Cherokee Distributing Company and University Eye Surgeons. The tournament was held at Willow Creek Golf Club on April 17th raising over $28,000 for the students and staff of Bearden High School.

 

The Golf Classic events began at noon with an amazing lunch buffet sponsored by The Brown Bag Cafe. Bearden’s Choral Ensemble entertained players as they were preparing carts with their harmonic acapella displaying their talents under the leadership of Mary Sexton. Yearbook photographer’s captured the days action and submitted team player photos to BHS and Foundation Board member, teacher Amy Moskal and her team in the clubhouse who printed them and gifted teams with a memory photo at days end. Contest opportunities included a $5,000 Hole-In-One Challenge and $5,000 Putting Contest Challenge sponsored by Phil Guthe Insurance. Larry Traggesser earned the final shot on this hole and came within inches of a win. Kimball’s Jeweler’s, once again sponsored our “Diamond in the Rough” Closest to the Pin Challenge raised extra cash offering a $500 David Yurman diamond bracelet! This year Jeff Golliher was our winner! Zoe’s Kitchen provided a delicious menu assortment for dinner for our Awards Ceremony where door prizes were awarded. This year’s 2014 Bearden High School Foundation Golf Classic winners were the Hilliard Lyons Group with Jeff Golliher, Darren Welch, Steve Golliher, and Brian Donaldson.
